Inverse problems for a perturbed dissipative half-space

چکیده
This paper addresses the scattering of acoustic and electromagnetic waves from a permrbed dissipative half-space. For simplicily, the perturbation is assumed to have compact support. Section 1 discusses the application that motivated this work and explains how the scalar model used here is related to Maxwell's equations. Section 2 introduces three formulations for direct and inverse problems for the half-space geometry. Two of these formulations relare to scattering problems, and the third to a boundary value problem. Section 3 shows how the scattering problems can be related to the boundary value problem. This shows that the three inverse problems are equivalent in B certain sense. In section 4, the boundary value problem is used to outline a simple way to formulate a multi-dimensional layer stripping procedure. This procedure is unstable and does not constitute a practical algorithm for solving the inverse problem. The paper concludes with t h e appendices, the fint two of which carry out a careful construction of solutions of the direct problem and the third of which contains a discussion of some properties of the scattering operator.

Uniqueness for a wave propagation inverse problem in a half space
This paper considers an inverse problem for wave propagation in a perturbed, dissipative half-space. The perturbation is assumed to be compactly supported. This paper shows that in dimension three, the perturbation is uniquely determined by knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map on an open subset of the boundary.
متن کاملRayleigh Wave in an Initially Stressed Transversely Isotropic Dissipative Half-Space
The governing equations of a transversely isotropic dissipative medium are solved analytically to obtain the surface wave solutions. The appropriate solutions satisfy the required boundary conditions at the stress-free surface to obtain the frequency equation of Rayleigh wave. The numerical values of the non-dimensional speed of Rayleigh wave speed are computed for different values of frequency...
متن کاملA Dissipative Integral Sliding Mode Control Redesign Method
This paper develops a new method of integral sliding mode control redesign for a class of perturbed nonlinear dissipative switched systems by modifying the dissipativity-based control law that was designed for the unperturbed systems. The nominal model is considered affine with matched and unmatched perturbations. The redesigned control law includes an integral sliding-based control signal such...
متن کاملDilations, models, scattering and spectral problems of 1D discrete Hamiltonian systems
In this paper, the maximal dissipative extensions of a symmetric singular 1D discrete Hamiltonian operator with maximal deficiency indices (2,2) (in limit-circle cases at ±∞) and acting in the Hilbert space ℓ_{Ω}²(Z;C²) (Z:={0,±1,±2,...}) are considered. We consider two classes dissipative operators with separated boundary conditions both at -∞ and ∞. For each of these cases we establish a self...
متن کاملInverse problem for wave propagation in a perturbed layered half-space
This paper is concerned with the inverse medium scattering problem in a perturbed, layered, half-space, which is a problem related to the seismologial investigation of inclusions inside the earth’s crust. A wave penetrable object is located in a layer where the refraction index is different from the other part of the half-space. Wave propagation in such a layered half-space is different from th...
